LTTE, civil dispute cause of death? by Anton Nonis Police investigations into the death of Swiss national Hans Horalin 63, victim of a grenade attack in his Batticaloa house last Monday, have revealed that the foreigner was a man with substance who owned many lands in Kaththankudi, Batticaloa. Police sources said that immediately after the killing, the accusing finger was pointed at the LTTE as the suspect. Eastern Range Deputy Inspector General, Neville Wijesinghe said, it was usual that whenever there had been an incident of this nature, to hold LTTE as the prime suspect. The two men who had come on a motorcycle that night had asked for Horalin, but was told by his Tamil wife that he was not available. Unsatisfied with the answer, they had searched around the house whether he could be around. A light burning in the bathroom located outside the house had aroused suspicions of the two men. Immediately after lobbying of grenade into the bathroom, the two had fled. Police suspect that rivalry with some other party over civil disputes may have led to this unfortunate incident. The foreigner, before settling down in Batticaloa, had been living in Pottuvil. Further investigations are being conducted by a special team directed by DIG Wijesinghe. |
