Anura Rohana equals course record in China by LAL GUNASEKERA Sri Lanka's professional, Anura Rohana is lying joint fifth with four others, and five shots behind the leader at the end of the third-round of the US $ 250,000 Sanya Open of the Asian Professional Golfers Association (APGA) Tour at the Yalong Bay Golf Club course in Sanya, China yesterday. Rohana had an aggregate 205 after the third-round with scores of 73,69,63. He not only tied with Charlie Wi of South Korea (73,67, 65), Gerry Norquist of USA (66,73,66), Clay Devers of USA (69,70,66) and Geralf Rosales of the Philippines (66,70,69) for the fifth place, but also equalled the course record with his third-round 63, after a nine birdie round. According to news reaching Colombo, Anura Rohana, a silver medallist at the 2002 Asian Games, could have earned US $ 12,000 as reward if he had broken the record, but his approach to the last hole found the greenside trap. In the lead is Australia's Terry Pilkadaris with an aggregate 200 (68,66,66) followed by Chinese Taipei's Chang Tse-Peng on 203 (70,67,66) with Thailand's Boonchu Ruangkit (66, 74, 64) and China's Liang Wen-Chong (69,69,66) tied for third position, followed by Sri Lanka's Rohana and others. Pilkadaris won the Crown Plaza Open in Shanghai last week, also on the APGA Tour. |
