David Griffiths new CEO HSBC Lanka and Maldives HSBC has appointed David Griffiths as Chief Executive Officer for HSBC in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. He succeeds Mark Humble who has assumed duties in a senior position in the Group as Global Head of Middle Market Enterprises, Commercial Banking, at HSBC's Group Head Office in London. David Griffiths joined HSBC in 1976 and has held a number of management roles in the Middle East, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan and Hong Kong. Most recently, Griffiths has held the post of Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bangladesh for the past three years. Humble, who has been with the HSBC group for 28 years and who has been Chief Executive Officer of HSBC in Sri Lanka and the Maldives for the past three years, said: "I'd like to congratulate David on his new role. We have a great business in Sri Lanka and HSBC is the leading international bank and the market leader in many areas. We see a lot of potential in Sri Lanka and the Maldives and I am sure that David will help HSBC achieve even greater success in the future." Griffiths said "Sri Lanka is a challenging market, especially in the light of the recent tsunami disaster in the region. I am excited about the opportunity to join the HSBC team in Sri Lanka, and I will take the local operations forward with a strong commitment in corporate social responsibility, while delivering our banking skills, high standards, global experience and local knowledge to our customers."
