Reconstruction as planned in Hambantota The tsunami-stricken Hambantota District reconstruction process is progressing as planned, under the direction and auspices of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse. A spokesperson from the Prime Minister's Office told the Sunday Observer that 27.5 acres, 1115 acres, 64 acres and 310.5 acres respectively have been identified and acquired for the reconstruction of 218, 4407, 361 and 1093 houses respectively, in the Divisional Secretariats of Tissamaharama, Hambantota, Ambalantota and Tangalle. Various international NGOs such as World Vision, CARE Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Red Cross, Sri Lanka Hungary Friendship Association, Malta, Malta Red Cross, GTZ, Plan Sri Lanka, International Service Partners (USA), TZU-CHI Foundation, Persatuan Pegatian Agama Chichui Tang-Kuala Lumpur and ASPIC (Benevolent Foundation for Children) among others. National and international Buddhist organisations such as Tissamaharama Rajamaha Viharaya, Metta Foundation, Buddhist Research Society of Singapore, Houston Buddhist Temple USA, Therawadhi Samaja Padanama, Kelani Vihara Dayaka Sabhava, Bodhiraja Padanama-Omalpe Sobhitha Thera Ambilipitiya among others had also contributed for the same. Local business entrepreneurs such as Hirdaramani Memorial Trust, Soma Edirisinghe Jana Sarana Praja Sathkaraka Sevawa, Ready Wear Garments and Tri Star Apparels among others had also been associated.
