President on Rupavahini tonight

A live television interview with President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga will be telecast on the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Channel at 9.15 p.m. today in both Sinhala and English languages.

The President will be interviewed by Hudson Samarasinghe and Daya Saman. Ministers Sarath Amunugama and Nimal Siripala de Silva will also be associated with the President at the interview. Sinhala discussion will be acompanied with English text as subtitles and vice versa.

Death threats, not from HC

Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press statement denied recent reports and comment referring to death threats received by a forensic expert in India, allegedly emanating from the Sri Lanka High Commission in New Delhi.

The Ministry categorically stated that these allegations are baseless. It further said: "Prior to these media reports, an investigation was already under way and a CID team visited India on 15th March, 2005 for this purpose. The investigators confirmed that the calls in question had not emanated from the High Commission. The CID investigation has identified the caller who has no connection to the High Commission."

Silumina 75 years

Next Sunday, April 3 issue of Silumina will carry a special supplement to commemorate its 75th anniversary.

The supplement which will give a vivid description of the paper's 75-year odyssey will be adorned by the cover page of its first issue published in 1930. Among the special articles will be the 'Story of inception', 'Silumina you have read for 75 years' 'A leader among local publications' 'Dramatic changes of the era'.

Sri Lankan doctor honoured

Chadwick Centre for Sexual Health of the Dewsbury Hospitals in England headed by a Lankan doctor P. Ariya De Silva has won the prestigious Charter Mark for the third time. The Charter Mark is the British Government's National Standard Award for excellence in public service.

Dr. De Silva is a past pupil of the country's first Sinhala Buddhist School, Piyaratana Maha Vidyalaya, Dodanduwa and Dharmasoka Vidyalaya Ambalangoda.

The Centre also won a West Yorkshire National Health Service Modernisation Award for its work in developing a Chlamydia screening network along with North Kirklees Primary Care Trust last year.

Murali wedding on ITN

A special documentary program depicting the highlights of spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan's marriage to Mathimalar Ramamurthy at Rani Meyyammai Hall in Egmore, Chennai, will be telecast tonight, Sunday at 9.30 pm over ITN.

This program had been possible due to the contribution of renowned photo journalist Prasanna Hennayake, who had covered the wedding for ITN.

The program will be followed by another special TV documentary at 10.15 pm, titled Indira Priyadarshani, on the former Prime Minister of India, the late Indira Gandhi.

This documentary has been produced in India and made available to ITN by the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka.

Missing

A news release from the Police Department states that one R. M. Ariyasinghe, is missing from his home since 16th January 2005 and his whereabouts are not known to any body.

He is 5 feet 3 inches. Any one who had seen this person or know his whereabouts is kindly requested to contact Upul Karunaratne residing at No 46/1 of Meethotamulla Road, Wellampitiya by telephone No. 0714-896997 or by writting to him.

Rony Jaya Krishan of 408A, Kesbewa Road, Boralesgamuwa, a 36-year-old father of two school-going children needs help. A heart patient, he is advised by Dr. Aruna Kapuruge, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon of the Jayawardenapura General Hospital, to undergo cardiac surgery which costs Rs. 550,000. Rony, a casual worker who finds it difficult to make ends meet without permanent employment, seeks help from kind hearted public to save his life.
