Tennekoon at the helm of SLAA

Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Janaka Bandara Tennekoon, was elected President of the Sri Lanka Athletic Association (SLAA) at its annual general meeting held yesterday at its headquarters. Minister Tennekoon received 56 votes to 54 by Derwin Perera, the Deputy Director of Sports of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The latter had walked out with his "team" in protest stating that a few rejected votes were counted in favour of Minister Tennekoon.

The Vice-Presidents elected were Sunil Jayaweera (the former chief of SLAA), P. H. D. Waidyatilleke, N. A. T. Jayasinghe, Ashley de Abrew, Premela Weerasinghe and K. V. Indika. Prema Pinnawela was re-elected Secretary with H. W. Wimalasiri as Treasurer. (L.G.)
