Making the industries world class The program "Making the industries world class" will be launched by the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) next month. Under this program CNCI plans to help local industries achieve world class status within two years by improving the productivity level. Any company can improve the productivity level by adopting world class management techniques such as 5S and Total Productive aintenance(TPM) Chairman CNCI Nimal Perera said that since our industries are competing globally improving productivity is essential to survive. The garment industry in Sri Lanka has adopted these management techniques and it has helped to improve productivity while our neighbour India too has adopted the same techniques and achieved rapid results. Many local industries still do not think there can be a vast improvement in quality and productivity by adopting these management techniques. Initially CNCI will have a program for the top management as their participation is essential to make it a success. We will start with the 5S system and once it is implemented successfully we will move on to TPM, he said. We have set a target of six months to implement 5S. The program for the top management has been titled "Introduction to Japanese 5S technique and CEOs and the senior managers role in implementation." It will be followed with training sessions for the 5S steering committees of the companies, progress meetings and factory visits until the concept is implemented successfully. SG |
