JVP calls off UNP bluff by Anura Maitipe "The date of the next presidential election is not an important issue of the day and it would be decided by the Elections Commissioner. If any party is not satisfied with the decision of the Commissioner, they could go to the Supreme Court and obtain redress", JVP Media Secretary Wimal Weerawansa told the media. "The fixing of the date for the next presidential is purely an internal matter but the UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is attempting to take it to the international fora. It is very clear that he is making every effort to safeguard international interests by betraying the national interests of the country," he added. "The Norway peace brokers are exerting full pressure on the government to comply with the ceasefire. But they exert no pressure on the LTTE. The LTTE keeps on killing people, recruiting child soldiers and eliminating political opponents. No action has been taken by the Norwegians against the LTTE," he further said. Former Minister Anura Kumara Dissanayaka also told the media, that "more than the presidential election there were many other vital issues to be discussed. If the UNP is so worried about national issues they must spell out their stand on Re-structuring of the CEB, State banks, National railway, lands, mineral resources, job security of State workers and National security of the country", he added. |
