Colombo University fancied to repeat last year's success

Depending champions University of Colombo and University of Moratuwa oarsmen and oarswomen are hard at training on the Beira Waters in preparation for the 22nd annual Inter-University Regatta to be held on July 29 starting at 1.30 p.m. The University of Colombo will host the event.

The regatta between the undergrads should turn out to be a close tussle as rowers from both universities have performed exceptionally well in warm-up regattas they have participated.

Last year, University of Colombo men's crew had 5 wins including the Beat Race to collect 36 points to University of Moratuwa's 6 points. They carried away the Prof. Stanley Wijesundara Challenge Trophy. The University of Colombo ladies also fared prominently, winning 3 events of the 4 including the Fours event. The points tally: University of Colombo 20, University of Moratuwa 2 points. The UOC were awarded the Lloyd Sirimanne Challenge Trophy.

The events to be worked off are: Men's 'A' scull, 'B' scull, 'A' pair, 'B' pair, 'A' fours, 'B' fours-women's-scull, 'A' pair and four.
