Pocahontas brought to life In 1995, Roy Disney directed an animated movie titled "Pocahontas". This was based on a true story. Pocahontas, which means "the naughty one" or "spoilt child" is a Princess of the Powhatans (a native American tribe). Her real name was Maotaka. She was the "favourite daughter" of her father, the powerful Chief Powhatan. She was born in the village of Werowocomoco. The bravery she displayed in trying to save an Englishman named John Smith made her popular. This movie has delighted millions of children from all over the world. The success and popularity of the movie prompted 150 students of Lyceum International School, Nugegoda to stage the musical drama 'Pocahontas-The True Princess' on April 7, 8 and 9 at their school premises. The perfect blend of their talent and creativity gave life to a wonderful and enjoyable drama. Tribal dances, music and songs provided an extraordinary experience to the audience. Aamina Mohommed, who played the role of Pocahontas, did justice to the role. She, along with all the other players, did a wonderful job in bringing the story of Pocahontas to life. - Janani
