The enchanting 'Knuckles Range'
by Beverley Jansz
The 'Knuckles' range of mountains at Wasgamuwa, located in the
districts of Matale and Plonnnaruwa, bordering the Mahaweli and Amban
rivers, is one of Sri Lanka's most enchanting tourist attractions.
The mist-clad mountain range, is one of Lanka's chief eco-tourism
venues.
Due to the scenic location, a number of safari villages and
eco-holiday resorts have been built to attract more foreign and local
tourists to Wasgamuwa.
The latest addition to Wasgamuwa is Ashane Holiday Bungalow, a
six-room cottage type resort built on a one-care forest, beautifully
landscaped. The plus point for Ashane Holiday Bungalow is that is has
been built overlooking the captivating 'Knuckles' range of mountains,
and in close proximity to the Wasgamuwa Wildlife Sanctuary.
The bungalow is ideal for animal lovers, Managing Director, Anil
Silva said. The resort can be booked as one unit and is ideal for a
family outing.
River bathing in the Minipe Ele is popular among tourists.
With many ancient tanks and several other ruins and ancient religious
sites in close proximity to bungalow, it has become a popular family
holiday spot. The resort offers jeep safaris to Wasgamuwa Wildlife
Sanctuary and other places of tourist interest in the area.
The six-room cottage is given out at a very responsible price,
specially to Sri Lankans and expatriates who are animal and ecology
lovers, Silva said.
