Caltex - Ruhunu Rugby Sevens Aug. 19

The Caltex Ruhunu Rugby 7's kicks-off for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka's rugby on August 19 in Galle with 16 teams from the Southern region competing for honours.

Rugby in the Southern Province saw significant developments with Galle RFU being represented in the "A" division tournament and the Caltex Ruhunu 7's is to be staged annually.

Caltex has been the sponsors of the League and Knock-Out tournaments of the SLRFU since 2000 and the Under-23 competition this year. The CEO/Managing Director of Caltex, Kishu Gomes, said that they have been associated with the game of rugby for six years and have signed up with the SLRFU to continue their support upto 2010.

Caltex are also dedicated to penetrate the sport to the rural areas and popularise the sport for its development. For the past 10 years, Caltex, has also been committed towards developing other sports in the country like Motor Sports, Boxing, Indoor Cricket and Volleyball.
