Hemajith Fernando - the ideal man for the job

Hemajith Fernando, as the head of the media unit of 10th South Asian Games is performing his duties in an extraordinary manner and his work has been appreciated by everyone.

As the media officer, Fernando is mainly responsible for the publication of the South Asian Games News Bulletin from December 2005.

The bulletin includes all important information on the 20 disciplines for the Games.

In addition, guidelines are featured on seminars, workshops, coaching clinics, sports training pools dates and venues of the 20 disciplines, re-development work on the venues, sports equipment distributions, medical unit, sponsorships, transportation, hotels, Sri Lanka records from 1984 to 2004 at SAF Games, Decorations by Local Government bodies, medal tally, Number of participants, Opening and Closing ceremonies and on all what is required on the Games.

So Fernando has highlighted on the progressive work on the SA Games to be held from August 18 to 28.

Fernando is a work-horse from his day and had his education at Thelijjwila Central College, Matara, Nalanda College and Aquinas University, Borella. He was employed at Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) for 33 long years as an announcer, producer, commentator and senior organiser Sinhala programmes unit.

He was the first producer of Sports division of SLBC together with late Carlton Seneviratne a former Daily News Sports Editor.

The sports programme was very popular amongst the listners around the country. All sports were covered in Colombo as well as in the outstations.
