Acquired by Amanresorts and fully renovated and restored, the
historic hotel opened as Amangalla in February 2005, Amanresorts' first
Sri Lankan resort.Manager of Amangalla resort, Olivia Richli talking
about the resorts said, Amangalla offers 29 rooms, chambers, suites and
two -storey garden houses with the period charm of a previous era.
The Zaal of great Hall as it was known in Dutch Colonial times
features soaring ceilings and wooden verandas.
She said by aiming at protecting the colonial accent, the dining room
and bar provides separate intimate settings. One can see the entrance
corridors, bedrooms, chambers and suites providing varying views. Suites
feature antiques or well crafted reproductions set on teak floorboards
dating back 300 years.

Furnishing also include king size wooden products and a two storey
garden house which is located within the resort's gardens and features
original antique furniture including the Meditation and Yoga Pavilion.
The unique Library provides a range of interesting books on the
Cultural history of Sri Lanka. When we talk about hotels and resorts one
of the main things is food. Here one can choose a traditional Sri Lankan
breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Bathrooms provide twin vanities, a shower room and a separate water
closet and freestanding bathtubs. Entry to the baths is from a reception
flanked by an arched hall leading to five treatment rooms.
Separate areas for men and women include hydrotherapy pools steam
rooms, Saunas and cold plunge pools. Centred within the resort's garden,
the swimming pool offers five shaded ambalams. (small rooms) and a
series of sun loungers. Getting away from a busy schedule at Amangalla
resort will provide an enchanting colonial experience . |
