Enchanting colonial charm

Amangalla's heritage :

The bath treatment rooms and hydrotherapy area recapture a bygone era of ‘taking the waters’, restoring the body and soothing the mind.

Combined discovery of the 400-year-old Galle Fort, a UNESCO world heritage site with the balmy seclusion of a palm-fringed golden beach on Aman's Fort and Beach Journey is a six-night sojourn that reveals the rich dimensions of Sri Lanka's colourful south coast.

Acquired by Amanresorts and fully renovated and restored, the historic hotel opened as Amangalla in February 2005, Amanresorts' first Sri Lankan resort.Manager of Amangalla resort, Olivia Richli talking about the resorts said, Amangalla offers 29 rooms, chambers, suites and two -storey garden houses with the period charm of a previous era.

The Zaal of great Hall as it was known in Dutch Colonial times features soaring ceilings and wooden verandas.

She said by aiming at protecting the colonial accent, the dining room and bar provides separate intimate settings. One can see the entrance corridors, bedrooms, chambers and suites providing varying views. Suites feature antiques or well crafted reproductions set on teak floorboards dating back 300 years.

Furnishing also include king size wooden products and a two storey garden house which is located within the resort's gardens and features original antique furniture including the Meditation and Yoga Pavilion.

The unique Library provides a range of interesting books on the Cultural history of Sri Lanka. When we talk about hotels and resorts one of the main things is food. Here one can choose a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Bathrooms provide twin vanities, a shower room and a separate water closet and freestanding bathtubs. Entry to the baths is from a reception flanked by an arched hall leading to five treatment rooms.

Separate areas for men and women include hydrotherapy pools steam rooms, Saunas and cold plunge pools. Centred within the resort's garden, the swimming pool offers five shaded ambalams. (small rooms) and a series of sun loungers. Getting away from a busy schedule at Amangalla resort will provide an enchanting colonial experience .
