Trade mission for Russia and Ukraine

The Sri Lanka-Russia Business Council operating under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has organised a Trade and Investment Promotion Mission to Russia and Ukraine from September 6-12. The mission coincides with 50 years of bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the Russian Federation.

The mission will be lead by Minister of Export Development and International Trade, G. L. Peiris.

The main objective of this mission is to strengthen trade ties, source suitable business partners, promote investments and joint ventures between the two countries and offer an opportunity for participants to obtain a better understanding of the business environment in Russia.

The delegation plans to have one on one business meetings with Russian and Ukrainian companies with matching business interests and visit industrial plants/factories in Russia and Ukraine. The delegation will also have meetings with the Chambers of Commerce, counterpart Trade Associations and relevant Government authorities.

Sri Lanka's embassy in Moscow and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation have confirmed their fullest co-operation to make this mission a success and are in the process of making arrangements for meetings with private sector companies and relevant Government authorities.

Based on initial discussions with the Chambers of Commerce and interested parties, Sri Lanka's Ambassador in Russia, Udayanga Weeratunga has indicated that the following sectors would have high potential for exports from Sri Lanka, importation from Russia and joint venture collaborations.

Exports from Sri Lanka

Spices, Desiccated coconuts, Gems and Jewellery (polished and unpolished), Canned Juices and Fruits, Cut flowers, Garments and accessories, Food items eg: High quality rice, Floor tiles, ceramic, granite, Rubber and rubber products (mainly with Ukraine), Traditional medicine or herbal based high quality beauty products, Porcelain, Large chilies, Imports, Animal feed, Newsprint, Joint ventures.

Tourism, Spices, Fisheries, processing canning, Rubber and rubber products with Ukraine, Fruit processing/canning.
