Dharmaraja broke the Jamboree record, for, this is the first time in
the history of scouting in Sri Lanka that such a large number of scouts
from one school will participate at a World Jamboree.
The farewell and college flag handing over ceremony to the Dharmaraja
Scouts, organised by the Old Rajans Scout Association will be held today
July 22 at 11.00 a.m. at the Lake View Park International Scout Centre,
Kandy.
The biggest ever 21st World Scout Jamboree has been organised by the
World Scout Bureau and hosted by the United Kingdom Scout Association to
celebrate the founding of scouting by Lord Baden Powell, 100 years ago
in 1907 in Brownsea Island, England.
The Jamboree's theme is 'One World - One Promise'. The Jamboree will
start with a spectacular opening ceremony, reaching a high point with
Scouting's Sunrise and a day of celebrations shared around the world on
August 1 and finish with memories and friendships at the closing
ceremony.
Scouting brings together young people from every religion, faith and
belief. The Jamboree offers a chance to find out more about faith and to
learn more about the beliefs of new friends around the world.
This is a chance for scouts to help make a difference in the lives of
people and the environment in local communities around the Jamboree
site.
Forty thousand scouts from 155 countries of the world will
participate in the Jamboree and this is a chance to find out more about
these countries through practical and hands-on activities. From sports
and games to culture and traditions is the scout world to explore. |
