Harshadewa Padmasiri wins marathon
MARATHON: R. G. Harshadewa Padmasiri of Kandy District won the
Metatechno IT Marathon of 42.195 km to get prize money of Rs. 25,000 and
the Kega Michie Challenge Trophy. Padmasiri's timing for the distance
was 2 hours 51 minutes 10 seconds.
In second place was K. A. N. Padmasiri of Colombo District who timed
2 hours 51 minutes 29 seconds and he received Rs. 15,000 and the
Yasuhiro Challenge Trophy. Padmasiri's timing was 2 hours 51 minutes 29
seconds.
Coming third in the men's open event was K. A. I. Dinesh of Colombo
District who timed 2 hours 56 minutes 34 seconds and he received Rs.
10,000.
In the event for University students (boys), in first place was J. M.
A. S. Jayaweera of Ruhuna University and he was timed at 38 minutes 3.00
seconds in the 10 km race and he received Rs. 10,000 with S. V. D. N. T.
Gunadasa of Kelaniya University who received Rs. 7,000 and in third
place was D. K. G. K. P. Pathirana of Peradeniya University in 47
minutes 26.00 seconds and he received Rs. 5,000.
In the event for girls at the University, the winner was W. S. S.
Waniganayake of Sri Jayewardenapura University in 49 minutes 29.0
seconds in the 10 km race. She received the Midori Foundation Challenge
Trophy.
Second was K. P. Indu Samanmali also of Sri Jayewardenapura
University in 57 minutes 24.0 seconds and third was W. A. Auesha
Jeewanthie also from Sri Jayewardenapura University in 60 minutes 24
seconds. The cash awards for the first three in the women's event was
the same as that of the first three in the boys race.
In the event for schoolboys, Shehan Dulip Tissera of Mahanama M.V.
Panadura came first in the 10 km race in 35 minutes 56.0 seconds and he
received Rs. 10,000 and the Metatechno Lanka Challenge Trophy, S. N. R.
Siriwardane of Parape M. V. Rambukkana came second and received Rs.
7,000 while third was Sandun Sumeda Silva of Basilika College, Ragama
and he received Rs. 5,000.
Among the schoolgirls, in first place was Disna Kumari Ekanayake of
Weera Keppetipola M.M.V. in 43 minutes 28.0 seconds and she received Rs.
10,000. Coming second was P. S. Subasini of Hapitigama M.V. Hapitigama
and she received Rs. 7,000 and third was W. G. I. K. Sriyangani of Veera
Keppetipola M.M.V. of Akuramboda, Matale and she received Rs. 5,000.
