Muisheen Ariff to serve in Asia referees selection panel

FOOTBALL: One of Sri Lanka's outstanding referees - Mohamed Muisheen
Ariff has been rewarded for his dedication and hardwork by being
selected by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to serve in the Asia
Referees Selection Panel to select international referees to FIFA.
Muisheen, the Director for referees in the Football Federation of Sri
Lanka and FIFA referee for a decade, attended the AFC referee course at
AFC House Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by Instructors Ian Blanchard and Roy
Olivier from Football Association England, received his appointment.
Muisheen said that he was delighted about his new appointment. He
thanked everyone who helped and guided him to reach this standard.
The AFC is happy about Muisheen's appointment because there are only
ten in Asia out of 49 countries. He will be in charge of South and
Central region of Asia.
After his appointment to the selection panel, Muisheen was assigned
to do the selection in Bahrain, India and Turkmenisten. The AFC is
delighted of his recent appointment as a member of organising committee
for AFC President's Cup and AFC Challenge Cup from 2007 to 2011.
Since 1984, Muisheen had been serving in the Asian Football
Confederation as a FIFA Referee (from 1984 to 1994) thereafter, he had
other designations as Match Commissioner, Referees Instructor Assessor,
General Coordinator and Referee Development Officer.
Muisheen came into the football scene after his schooling at Carey
College then to Zahira College where he learnt his fundamentals in
kicking a football. During his tenure as captain of Zahira College, the
school won the Brazil Cup in 1969. He was also a member of the Sri Lanka
Youth Pool.
On leaving school, he continued in the game and represented Victory
SC with distinction and was in the champion Victory SC team that toured
India for the All-India Tournament. He began refereeing in 1979 and
passed the FIFA test in 1984. Muisheen has 40 years experience as a
player, administrator, coach and referee.
Besides football, he was keen on Kabaddi and was the first Sri Lanka
National Kabaddi team captain in 1984 at the All-India Kabaddi
tournament held in Bombay in 1984.
In the administrative side of things, he was Secretary City Football
League and Assistant Secretary, Mercantile FA.
