Dr. Amunugama said that if we have about 1,000 inventors or more the
problems faced by our country will be very much less.
Therefore, everybody should encourage inventors. Minister Amunugama
assured all encouragement and support to the inventors as they are the
future of the country.
Their inventions were in different fields but all are useful pieces
of equipment to tackle the day to day problems.
The equipment included an artificial leg, a water filter, mathematics
apparatus, mosquito repellent, cashew separator, machine to clean the
coir, a cooker using paddy husks and rubber paint. He said that though
people in the country do innovations the economic benefits are much
less.
Therefore, we together with the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC)
has prepared a plan to help inventors which includes giving them due
recognition, helping them to make their inventions commercially
available as well as financial grants.
He called upon the officials of SLIC to arrange a seminar at a venue
in Colombo and invite all private sector companies so that these
inventors will get an opportunity of explaining their inventions to the
companies.
Minister Amunugama requested them to find solutions for the energy
problem by inventing mini hydro systems as well as energy efficient
solutions.
