International symposium
The international symposium organised by the Institute of Chemistry,
Ceylon focusing on Food Science and Technology and Healthcare on the
theme ‘Innovations in Food Science and Technology and Healthcare for
Social Wellbeing’ will be held from June 12-14 at the BMICH.
Food and healthcare being vital for the wellbeing of people as the
availability and quality of food, food related diseases such as non
communicable diseases and food borne diseases affects the health of the
people.
Application of scientific innovations in improving the food
availability of minimising post harvest losses new development in
technology for development of products and services for healthcare will
be presented.
The symposium has attracted many world experts in the subject areas
as resource persons from Japan, Australia, USA, UK, Pakistan, Oman,
Singapore. India and Sri Lanka. In addition there will be research paper
presentations by prominent Sri Lankan scientists. About 250 participants
are expected to attend the program from the Industry, Universities and
Research Institutes.
‘Know it All’
A seminar and workshop titled ‘Know it All’ on the Fundamentals of
Islamic Banking Finance and Takaful will be held from June 7-8 at the
Trans Asia Hotel. The two-day seminar and workshop is organised by the
First Global Knowledge Centre, a leading event manager and franchisee of
Islamic Banking and Finance study courses in Sri Lanka.
President of the First Global Group, Ikram Thowfeek, said that this
event, the second of a series of signature events titled ‘Know it all’
is back by popular demand in a context where the demand for events and
study courses relating to Islamic Banking, Finance and Insurance is
growing locally and globally. Studies have revealed that the demand for
Islamic Banking professionals is growing at a phenomenal rate with
numerous new banking jobs in the sector being made available in the Gulf
region alone, he said.
United Motors opens branch in A’pura
United Motors Lanka PLC, the sole distributor in Sri Lanka for
Mitsubishi Brand New Vehicles, Mitsubishi Fuso Trucks and Mitsubishi
Genuine Parts and Accessories opened its first branch with comprehensive
facilities under one roof at Maithripala Senanayake Mawatha, New Town,
Anuradhapura.
The branch was opened by the Chief Minister of the North Central
Province, Berty Premalal Dissanayake, who was received by CEO/Executive
Director, Chanaka Yatawara and Executive Director of United Motors,
Ramesh Yaseen.
The Chief Minister commended the company for setting up branches in
the outstations and expressed his appreciation for deciding on
Anuradhapura, especially taking into consideration the high volume of
Mitsubishi vehicles available in the North Central Province.
United Motors is now extending its services to selected provincial
towns in the country. The Anuradhapura branch will not only market the
range of Mitsubishi vehicles, Mitsubishi Fuso Trucks, Mitsubishi Genuine
Parts and Mitsubishi Repair/service facilities but will also make
available the products marketed by its subsidiaries.
The non Mitsubishi products would include Perodua cars from Malaysia,
Nomad Zotye SUVs and JMC cabs from China and Trucks from Force Motors,
