Boost for rubber cultivation in Sabaragamuwa

An exhibition and seminar organised by the Rubber Research Institute
will be held on October 21 and 22 at Ratnapura to make the rubber
cultivators aware on the use of modern technology to boost rubber
cultivation in Sabaragamuwa Province.
This exhibition and seminar will help rubber cultivators in the
province to stabilize their cultivation while getting the maximum
harvest from the existing rubber cultivation, Rubber Research Institute
Director Asoka Nugawela said.
He stated that cultivators will be enlightened on the ways and means
to get high quality rubber while cutting down expenses. Institutions
operating under the Rubber Research Institute will display their
products and research reports at the exhibition.It is hoped that 12
institutions including the agriculture division and chemical division
operating under the Rubber Research Institute will participate in the
exhibition, Nugawela added.The Rubber Development Department will also
have a stall at the exhibition.
Under the "Thuru Saviya Aramudala" rubber smallholders will be helped
to market their rubber produce at a fair price.He further stated that
steps will be taken to provide fertilizer, insecticides, rubber tapping
knives and coconut shells at concessionary prices to the rubber
cultivators.Another series of seminars and exhibitions have been
organised on November 1 and 2 and December 8 and 9 at Ruwanewlla Central
College and Kosgama respectively. |
