Jaffna Combined XI in quarters

A Jaffna District combined team entered the quarter- finals of the "Munchee" Glucofit schools Six-a-side cricket tournament organised by the Old Wesleyite Sports Club at Campbell Park yesterday.

The Jaffna lads defeated Lyceum International School and S.Thomas College, Mount Lavinia on their way to enter the quarter finals. However, Thomian Nuwan Dharshana was the highest scorer of the day striking a vigorous unbeaten 64 with nine fours and two sixes in their match against Trincomalee District Combined team.

The championship will commence at 8.30 a.m. with a few more quarter finals to be played, followed by the semis and the final.

There will be a women's exhibition six a side match, prior to the opening of the newly laid turf of the Wesley College grounds.

Results: St.Peter's 58 (Nilochana Perera 25 n.o.) beat Wesley 56 (Dananjaya Wijesinghe 27).

Asoka MV 43 lost to Joseph Vaz 46 for 1 (P.Obris 15 n.o., S.Kalhara 17 n.o.).

S.Thomas' Mount Lavinia 57 (N. Dharshana 15) lost to Jaffna District 58 for 1 (Nawatheewan 14, E.Edin 14 n.o.).

Ananda 81 for 2 (Ruwinda Shayaman 37 n.o.) beat Royal College, Colombo 63 for 0 (C.Rajaratne 31 n.o., R. Rambukwella 31 n.o.).

Richmond 73 for 3 (Dananjaya de Silva 27, M.Hilam 2 for 6) beat Zahira, Colombo 59 (I. Rafi 27)

Lyceum International School 61 (M.Ranaweera 21) lost to Jaffna District 64 for 2 (Edward Edin 23).

Ampara District 31 lost to Ananda 35 for 0 (U.Nadeeranga 18 n.o., S.Devage 17 n.o.).

S.Thomas' MTL 76 for 1 (Nuwan Dharshana 64 n.o.) beat Ampara District 41 (Janith de Silva 3 for 14).

Polonnaruwa District 38 lost to Royal 41 for 1 (W. Dissanayake 23).

Holy Cross 46 lost to Zahira 47 for 0 (I. Rafi 36 n.o.).
