  What is Musical theatre?
Musical Theatre is one of the
fastest growing areas of interest within the dramatic arts in UK,
Australia, South-East Asia and is now starting to make waves in Sri
Lanka. The course conducted by Accenxia will include many experts in the
industry, who will from time to time lend their experiences, their
personal styles and preferences and experiences of directing and acting
in Musical Theatre.
Due to its relative newness, anyone interested in joining the
Performance Arts or Musical Theatre industry can be enlightened on the
correct perspective on what’s on offer.
Grade examinations in Musical Theatre are available for solo, pair,
and group work. The three disciplines that are examined in these
syllabuses are singing, acting, and movement but, as is the nature of
musical theatre, candidates need to demonstrate their ability in these
skills through integrative performance.
These classes are open to students aged seven years upwards and entry
is only open following an audition. This syllabus offers wide scope in
choice of material and allows for the development of valuable
interactive theatre skills. At all levels, groups perform from memory
and demonstrate ability in the skills of acting, singing and
choreographed movement.
The scope for Musical Theatre is tremendous
where many musicals from Broadway to the Westend will be explored to
compliment the syllabus on offer.
This course gives students the opportunity to explore how to perform
in musical theatre and to develop skills used in the various performance
strands Recognised in England by the Qualifications and Curriculum
Authority (QCA), highly qualified examiners with the backing of leading
specialists and academics, assess candidates in a free choice of
repertoire, encouraging them to explore the literature and the art of
our own cultural roots, and that of the US and other English speaking
countries.
Cuckoo Jayawardhana-Mushin of Accenxia said, “My personal excitement
and reasons for introducing these courses are primarily to Initiate
youngsters and adults who don’t have the exposure and the opportunity to
explore their skills to do so individually, away from the spotlight of a
theatre, to give opportunities to the talented kids and adults to engage
in this delightful art without having to do so within a musical theatre
performance, to lend their talents for exploration to check on what
areas they are better at singing, movement and acting and to educate
students that you do not require a trained voice to enter these courses,
much less be successful at the examinations provided by TRINITYGUILDHALL
and LAMDA (London)”. She added, “These courses are a great way to
evaluate your voice as a tool and also as a aid in delivery of a strong
believable performance.”
