Moragahakanda reservoir ready by 2014

The Irrigation and Water Resources Management Ministry has planned to complete the Moragahakanda reservoir project by 2014 with the financial assistance from Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA).Meanwhile the Ministry has taken steps to pay compensation to the people whose lands were taken over and are to be taken over due to the construction work of the Moragahakanda reservoir project.

The list of affected persons have been prepared by the Ministry and most of them are from Laggala and Ambanganga areas, according to the Irrigation and Water Resources Management Ministry sources.

Though plans are afoot to resettle those people in Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa District, and Mahaveli `F' and `D' zones they have made a request through Matale District Parliamentarian Wasantha Lakshman Perera to the Minister for Resettlement.
