The Indian Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma was the first
foreign Naval Chief to visit Sri Lanka, since the internal
conflict ended in May last year. The Indian Naval Chief
participated in a series of events with his wife Madulika
Verma during his stay in the island. Here Comander of the

‘Hastha 2010’, the provincial handicrafts exhibition
organised by the Western Provincial Department of Industries
together with the National Crafts Council was held at the
National Art Gallery under the patronage of Traditional
Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister Douglas
Devananda and Western Province Governor, Alavi Moulana.
Craftsmen from Gampaha, Kalutara and Colombo districts
participated at the event. |

Commission calls for written submissions
The Presidential Commission on Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation
convened its sessions in June 2010. It will draw its attention basically
on the preliminaries of keeping its sessions open to the public.
Notices in the Sinhala, Tamil and English media have been published
calling for written representations before August 18, 2010. The
commission will call upon the public to send in their written
representations early so that its work could be facilitated.The
Commission has since decided to conduct open sessions for the
convenience of people in the affected areas which will enable it to
obtain information direct from the affected parties.
The Commission as determined by it and within the ambit of its terms
of reference will call upon the persons who would express broader views
and are active in the relevant fields, to give evidence before it.
SLIOP workshops on 'Graphic Arts Technology' on July 10, 18
Sri Lanka Institute of Printing under the Ministry of Youth Affairs
will conduct two workshops in graphic arts technology to help
professionals on Design Concepts and Digital Work Flow in the Graphic
Arts Industry on Saturday, July 10 and the Computer to Plate Technology
on Sunday, 18 from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm, at the Sri Lanka Institute of

Wayamba University festival today
Today is the final day of the Food and Cultural Festival organised by
the Faculty of Livestock, Fisheries and Nutrition of Wayamba University
of Sri Lanka. It has been organised to strengthen ethnic harmony and
develop soft skills among the university community.
All participants are scheduled make a cultural visit of Wayamba
Heritage today. The places include Panduwasnuwara, Munneswaram temple,
Thalawila church and the Grand Mosque of Puttalam. The visit is expected
to stand the unique features of religious cultures, which will lay the
foundation for a long lasting relations among different communities.

A. S. Shanthikumar (59) of Moratuwa is suffering from chronic renal
