Heshan, Madhavee set new records

Two swimmers from Kandy Heshan Unamboowe of Trinity College and Madhavee Weeratunga of Mahamaya College selected to swim for Sri Lanka at the Ist Youth Olympic Games in Singapore from August 14 to 26 endorsed their supremacy on the penultimate day of the four day Sri Lanka Schools Swimming Championships conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Swimming Association and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd (MILO) held at the Ananda College Swimming pool yesterday.

Heshan won all three events in the boys under-19 age category establishing two meet records. He set records in the 100 metres Butterfly Stroke with a time of 1.00.20 secs and in the 50 metres Back Stroke `clocking' 28.05 secs. He came first in the 50 metres Butterfly Stroke 27.82 secs. Meanwhile Madhavee set a new record in the girls under-17 - 100 metres free style timing 1.04.99 secs and went on to win the other two events with ease - 50 metres free style 30.11 secs and 100 metres butterfly stroke 1.19.31 secs.

The meet will be continued today from 9 a.m.
