Entrepreneur Day 2010 from Sept 18-19
by Dharma SRI ABEYRATNE
Though Sri Lanka received Independence on February 4, 1948, several
foreign countries and financial institutions imposed conditions on us
since we are not financially independent, said Small and Medium
Enterprise Development Support Unit Chief Coordinator and Senior
Lecturer of Sri Jayewardenepura University Shaman Udayanga.
He was addressing the media on the 'Entrepreneur Day 2010' program.
Udayanga said the country has to achieve certain economic power to
mitigate international involvements. As a result of this situation the
World Bank decides whether farmers have to be given the fertiliser
subsidy.
Moreover several countries tried to get involved in the humanitarian
missions to eradicate LTTE terrorism. They tried to advise us whether
the humanitarian mission was to be completed or aborted, and tried to
dictate to us how to do so.
As an independent country Sri Lanka has to reach a better grading
economically. To reach this economic standard, more enterprises and
business entities have to be formed. The 'Entrepreneur Day 2010' trade
and educational exhibition will be held from September 18-19 from 9 a.m.
to 8 p.m. daily at the Sri Jayewardenepura University to assist budding
entrepreneurs to reach national and international levels, the Chief
Coordinator said.
The event to be held under the theme 'No dream is impossible to
achieve' will project Sri Lanka's pride and glory to the world.
Entrepreneur Day 2010 is organised by the Small and Medium Enterprise
Development Support Unit (SMEDSU) of the Faculty of Management Studies
and Commerce (FMSC) in collaboration with the Chamber of Small and
Medium Enterprises (COSME) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
The SMEDSU of Sri Jayewardenepura University which is a prestigious
and nationally recognised university with an impressive academic record
of over 50 years has been assisting small and medium entrepreneurs to
overcome obstacles in the entrepreneurial sector to reach national and
international levels. 'Entrepreneur Day 2010' will target and create
awareness, stimulate interest, entertain questions, provide answers and
options on the multi-facets of entrepreneurship to inculcate a positive
entrepreneurship culture among students, budding entrepreneurs, veterans
in the field, government, private sector institutions and the public in
the country, a Senior Lecturer Rukmal Weerasinghe said.
Therefore, 'Entrepreneur Day 2010' will be an ideal opportunity for
the government and private sector to reach national and international
levels while showcasing their products and services to the world. In
addition 'Entrepreneur Day 2010' will be a unique opportunity especially
for small and medium entrepreneurs, the Lecturer said.
