Sanduni sets only record

Only one meet record was established on the first day of the 27th
Mercantile Athletic meet at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday. This
record was set by Sanduni Bollegala of Seylan Bank by throwing the
Javelin for a distance of 33.42 m.
The earlier record of 32.40 m too was under her belt which she
achieved in 2006.
A total of nine championship events were concluded yesterday. J.A.A.S.
Kumara of Lake House competing in the under 45 age category won the
1,500 m and the 400 m events comfortably. Kumara who is expected to
compete in the 800 m today hopes to make it a triple three wins.
