Suvadivi goes organic
'Suvadivi' a cadjan roofed small outlet located at Temple Road
Maharagama has all the varieties of indigenous rice as well as a host of
products grown without the use of chemicals and pesticides.
The owner of Suvadivi, Manjula Hendewitharana said.
"I have realised my dream of having an outlet selling products grown
without the use of pesticides and weedicides. Though we advise customers
to eat healthy they don't have an outlet to purchase organically grown
rice, vegetables and fruits."
In addition we also sell all pulses and grains which are cleaned and
packeted. He said that they have farmer groups from whom they purchase
their products.
He also goes to the chenas for purchasing.
He said that they purchase all fruits from a farm which practises
organic agriculture in Puttalam.

The outlet also sells kitul treacle and jaggery as well as garlic in
bees, honey, pickles, ghee and dates which increases the memory while
increasing body strength.
The indigenous varieties of rice are good for diabetes and
cholesterol as well.
Compost fertilizer as well as seeds are also sold. These products can
also be purchased from the Homagama and Kottawa Coop city outlets as
well as from a host of other outlets.
Hendewitharana said that their policy is to sell locally produced
organic products. They will also start to sell greens, jak, breadfruit
as well as other indigenous vegetables, canjee, soups, fruit drinks,
local sweet meats, herbal as well as vegetable plants.
