Royal beat S. Thomas' at 37th Rowing Regatta
Royal oarsmen gave a vigourous display to secure
the overall championship with 34 points to 18 to regain the T.N.
Fernando Memorial Trophy, after a lapse of two years, but was not
powerful enough to win the all important boat race, at the 37th
Annual Royal-Thomian Regatta at the Beira Lake waters yesterday.

Mohammad Asif withdraws ICC suspension appeal
The International Cricket Council said Friday
that Pakistan’s fast bowler Mohammad Asif had withdrawn his
challenge to the provisional suspension handed down last month for
alleged match-fixing. Teammates Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir have
appealed against their own provisional suspensions and their
hearings are still set for Dubai on 30 and 31 October.

Ladies College beat Visakha 5-2 in waterpolo
Ladies College beat Visakha Vidyalaya by five
goals to two in their 7th annual waterpolo encounter worked off at
Police Sports Club swimming pool complex, Colombo. Though the final
score does not give any indication of the close battle for
supremacy, it was a keenly contested tussle. Both teams were in fine
form but the Ladies College offence proved to be too much for the
Visakhian defense and jumped into a quick 2-0 lead.
