VOLLEYBALL: Air Force and Youth Services emerged men’s and women’s
volleyball champions in the Youth Services Rupavahini Super League
Volleyball Championships held recently at the Indoor Stadium at the
Youth Centre, Maharagama.
The finals were played on October 17 and in the men’s final, Sri
Lanka Air Force beat Sri Lanka Navy and in the Women’s final, Youth
Services Women beat Pannala Casualine team.
Tharanga Ruksan of Air Force was picked as the Best Player among the
men and Madushika Ratnasiri of Youth Services was the Best Player among
the women.
They were presented with cash award of Rs. 19,000 each.
Results (men): Champion Team - Air Force - Rs. 150,000 in each and
Trophy. 1st runner-up: Sri Lanka Navy - Rs. 100,000, 2nd runner-up:
Youth Services - Rs. 50,000 and third runner-up: Sri Lanka Army - Rs.
30,000.
Women: Champion Team - Youth Services - Rs. 150,000; 1st runner-up:
Casualine, Pannala - Rs. 100,000 2nd runner-up: Sri Lanka Army - Rs.
50,000.
The chief guest at the awards presentation was Minister of Youth
Affairs Dallas Alahapperuma, the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Volleyball
Federation and Deputy Minister Dilan Perera, Deputy Minister Ranjith
Siyabalapitiya, Provincial Sports Minister Upali Kodikara, Maharagama
U.C. Chairperson Kanthi Kodikara, Rupavahini Director-General Devappriya
Abeysinghe, Navy Vice Admiral Tissera Samarasinghe.
