Minister of Economic Development, Basil Rajapaksa who was on a
four-day official visit to the Republic of Korea, called on the Korean
Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism, First Vice Minister of Foreign
Affairs & Trade and the President, Korea International Cooperation
Agency (KOICA).
The Korean Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism agreed with the Sri
Lankan Minister on prospects in promoting Sri Lanka as a key tourist
destination among Koreans and assured to work hand in hand with the
government of Sri Lanka in promoting bilateral tourism and cultural
relations.
The Korean Minister agreed to recommend to the Korean Ministry of
Transport to establish direct air links between Colombo and Seoul.
Minister Rajapaksa's invitation to the Korean Minister to visit Sri
Lanka was accepted.
Korean First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade agreed to
extend all possible assistance in facilitating Korea's Overseas
Development Cooperation funds towards Sri Lanka.
The President of KOICA, agreed to consider funding development
projects that were being proposed by Sri Lanka. He said that they are
ready to send a team of experts from Korea to Sri Lanka on October 24 to
commence the feasibility study on Mannar and Miladdy fishery harbours in
the North.
