Army Thal Sevana Holiday resort complex opened
by Ananda Pathiraja - North Central Province
Members of the Armed Forces, their families and civilians who wish to
spend holiday in Jaffna will see their dreams come true with the opening
of the new “Thal Sevana Holiday Resort” in the Peninsula last week.
Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at the invitation
of the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Mahinda
Hathurusinghe unveiled the plaque amidst sounds of Magul Bera
(ceremonial drums) to mark the opening of the Thal Sevana. After the
plaque was unveiled the two Palmyra saplings were planted by the Army
Commander SF-J on either side of the entrance. The Army Commander
accompanied by a galaxy of senior officers then cut the ribbon and
entered the main parlour of the resort.
The magnificent two-storeyed bungalow emerged in the same site of the
former Thal Sevana with many modifications such as air-conditioned and
non-air-conditioned spacious rooms, a balcony with a panoramic sea view,
restaurant and bar facilities.
This architecture is also the outcome of invaluable labour of many
soldiers, especially Commanding Officer of the fifth Engineer Services
Regiment Major Thusara Silva and his men.The resort, erected on a
concept of the incumbent Commander SF-J Maj. Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe,
would be a great consolation to Armed Forces’ members and civilians who
wish to holiday in Jaffna to find convenient accommodation and hygienic
meals at a reasonable price.
