Sri Lanka’s fame for gem and jewellery will shine again with the 21st
edition of FACETS 2011 international gem and jewellery show to be held
at the BMICH from September 8-11.
Sri Lanka’s precious stones have again begun to glitter around the
world with the recovery of the global precious stone market which was
hit by recession.
Known the world over as the gem island Sri Lanka’s precious stones
have adorned the jewellery of kings, queens and emperors from ages
according to legend.
The engagement ring worn by Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge is
believed to be studded with Sri Lanka’s blue sapphires.
FACETS Sri Lanka Chairman Chanaka Ellawala said that the gem and
jewellery market has fully revived after a setback in 2009.The industry
is confident that the market will grow this year.
Around 7500 visitors and 150 exhibitors are expected at this year’s
show. Exhibitors from India, Myanmar, Thailand and Hong Kong have
already registered for the show. The country’s main markets, Europe and
the US are recovering from the recession. Organisers expect a large
number of buyers from Europe, Russia and China.
