Pakistan sponsors construction of school building

The Government of Pakistan has sponsored the construction of a
three-storeyed school building in Gampaha to support the education
sector development drive of the Sri Lankan Government.
The High Commissioner of Pakistan Seema Ilahi Baloch handed over a
cheque for the construction of the building in Pasyala, Gampaha to
Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa at the Presidential
Secretariat. The school, Babussalam Maha Vidyalaya, comes under the
purview of the Education Zone of Minuwangoda.
The foundation stone for the project was laid on February 9, by High
Commissioner Baloch and Minister Rajapaksa.
The construction work is progressing and the project is expected to
be completed by the end of this year.
The Government of Pakistan has carried out projects in the health,
education and livelihood sectors in Sri Lanka.
These projects include the construction of the District Hospital,
Akurana; equipping schools with science laboratories; 30 computer
centres and six stitching centres; providing ambulances to hospitals;
award of Jinnah scholarships to students for continuation of their
education; and the award of long-term scholarships for the study of
medicine, engineering, dentistry, and pharmacy science in Pakistan.
The total cost for the construction of the school is estimated at Rs.
49.2 million, of which the Government of Pakistan is providing Rs. 14
million as a grant.
The school has over 500 students (both male and female), with 19
teachers.
