Eradication of dengue through awareness
The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) launched its 'Eradication of
Dengue through Awareness Campaign yesterday at the Town Hall.
House-to-house ward-to-ward and district-to-district awareness
programs, cleaning up of drains, sharmadanas and an advertising campaign
promoting awareness as many people are unaware of the breeding process
of this deadly mosquito are part of the campaign.
The dengue fever epidemic continues unabated in Colombo especially in
Colombo city's central and northern areas. The investigations conducted
by the CMC's Public Health Department revealed that there is an increase
of mosquito breeding places in and around the residences and
institutions in the city.
Charitha Atak on May 17 at Tower Hall
The Internationally acclaimed actor Wilson Gunaratne's newest
creation 'Charitha Atak' will go on boards at the Tower Hall on May 17
at 6.30 pm.
The cast includes Wilson Gunaratne (in eight different characters),
Gamini Hettiarachchi, Keerthi Bandara, Harry Wimalasena, G.
Chandrathilak, Premaratne Thennakoon, Kasun Chamara, Suresh Wettasinghe,
Lanka Wijesiriwardane, Indunil Seyathgedara.
The play has been organised by Sri Lanka Ex-Naval Veteran
Logisticians Association as a fund raiser project to implement the
proposed welfare projects designed for the members and their families.
Meeting on Lankan migrant workers
A regional consultative meeting with the participation of the Heads
of Sri Lanka Diplomatic Missions and Diplomatic Officers attached to the
Labour Sections of the Missions in the labour receiving countries will
be held in Amman, Jordan from today to Tuesday. This meeting is
organised jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Employment Promotion and
Welfare and the Ministry of External Affairs with the technical and
financial support provided by the International Labour Organization and
Swiss Agency for Development Corporation.
The meeting is convened under the guidance of Minister of Foreign
Employment Promotion and Welfare Dilan Perera.
Lecture on Sinhala radio opera
A guest lecture on 'The Sinhala Radio Opera and the Indian Cultural
Imagination' by Garret Field, a PhD Candidate in Ethnomusicology,
Wesleyan University, USA will be held at 4.00 p.m. on Tuesday at the
Department of Sinhala Auditorium, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo
(entrance from Reid Avenue).
The lecture is organised by the newly-established Centre for
Contemporary Indian Studies of the University.
