Australia beat West Indies by 17 runs (D/L method)

Australia beat West Indies by 17 runs acording to the Duckworth Lewis method in another rain-curtailed match in their 2012 ICC Twenty20 Group ‘B’ match played at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo last night.

Australia set a target of 192 after West Indies scored 191 batting first. Shane Watson was unbeaten on 41 and Mike Hussey on 28 at the crease in 9.1 overs. Aussies devastating opener David Warner got out for 28 runs in 14 balls, owing to a wrong decision by umpire Asad Rauf as he was ruled caught behind off Fidel Edwards. Earlier, West Indies innings powered by two blistering half centuries by Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels. Gayle smashed 54 runs in just 33 balls with five fours and four sixes while Samuels hitting 50 runs in 32 deliveries, studded by three fours and four sixes.

Brief scores: West Indies: 191/8 (Chris Gayle 54, Marlon Samuels 50, Dwayne Bravo 27, Mitchell Starc 3/35, Shane Watson 2/29)

Australia: 100/1 in 9.1 overs (Shane Watson 41 n.o, Mike Hussey 28 n.o, David Warner 28, Fidel Edwards 1/16).
