HDFC bags two awards

HDFC won the Merit Award at the National Business Excellence Awards
2012 organised by the National Chamber of Commerce at the Colombo Hilton
and the Bronze Award for Financial Institutions at the Chartered
Accountants Annual Report Awards 2012 at the Waters Edge.
A spokesman for the Bank said, "The HDFC Bank strategised its
operation to maximise economic and social benefits. The Bank's
strategies and initiatives have underpinned substantially for the growth
of the urban low-income housing sector."
"During 2011, the Bank empowered over 14,224 families with permanent
and supportive housing finance solutions. These facilities financed
12,142 new housing units assisted over 13,000 families to become home
owners. It also addressed the needs of over 600,000 people to have
decent shelter. Mortgage facilities were granted among the wider low and
middle income groups."
"In 2011, the Bank granted 64 percent of its loans to low and middle
income groups. HDFC Bank captured over 20,000 people in the urban sector
to formal banking systems through its mobile banking service," he said.
"HDFC's first attempt at publishing an integrated Annual Report for
2011 showcases a holistic view of HDFC Bank's commitment on economic,
environmental and social aspects of its operation," the spokesman said.
