Quality tea at the 'Tea Cup'
Sri Lanka produces 300 million kilograms of tea annually and it is
one of the prime export products of the country.
“We are a tea producing and drinking country but despite this, most
people do not have the opportunity to taste a premium quality cup of
tea. The 'Tea Cup', that specialises in pure Ceylon Tea is the latest
tea boutique in Colombo. It was set up to enable customers to experience
quality and freshness in a cup of tea amidst a relaxing atmosphere,”
Watawala Plantatons Director Dushi Ratnasingham said.
“Our desire is to see that Sri Lankans are provided with best of
country’s tea products. We expect this to be a trend in places selling
tea such as restaurants and cafes. With this focus we offer customers,
good quality tea under the brand Zesta and Watawala Kahata from Watawala
Plantations,” he said.
The company plans to promote the habit of drinking quality tea by
setting up more tea boutiques. The country produces varieties of low,
medium and high grown tea for which continuous demand prevails from the
Middle East, CIS countries, Japan, Europe, USA and South Africa.
Tea is grown in many parts of the country including in Uva, Nuwara
Eliya, Dimbula and Kandy.
