Thai Pongal message

The All Ceylon Hindu Congress has wished for this year's Thai Pongal to bring prosperity to all. In a news release, the Congress said, Thai Pongal which falls on the first day of the Tamil calendar (January 14 or 15) is one of the most popular festivals for Hindus and is traditionally dedicated to the Sun (God Surya) by the Hindus, especially farmers. It is also known as the harvest festival.

The Tamil people, while welcoming Thai Pongal with various expectations, hopes that soon they could live their lives with independence and self-respect.

The All Ceylon Hindu Congress prays on behalf of the Hindus of this country that all Tamils would satisfy their aspirations in the Thai Pongal day.

"We further pray to his Almighty Sivagami Sametha Nadarajah Peruman to remove the darkness and bless our people with happy and prosperous lives", the news release said.
