Professionals must support development drive, says OPA president

Government's effort in making Sri Lanka the Wonder of Asia is a
unique opportunity given to the Sri Lankan professionals to serve the
motherland and be a part of its history, said the new President of the
Sri Lanka Organisation for Professional Associations Benedict Ullwishewa
at a recently held event. "Without our active participation and
dedication, successful implementation of this ambitious plan will not be
possible," Ullwishewa said.
The Sri Lanka Organisation for Professional Associations, celebrating
the induction of their new President held a special ceremony recently at
the Hotel Galadari, Colombo where Economic Development Minister Basil
Rajapaksa was the chief guest. Minister of Power and Energy Champika
Ranawaka was the guest of honour.
Ullwishewa, in his speech addressing the two ministers, said that the
members of the organisation is ready to face all challenges that will be
presented before them. "We are prepared to co-operate with the
Government to accomplish its development goals," he said.
Benedict Ullwishewa was officially inducted as the 32nd President of
the Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA) at the event and was
sworn in by OPA founder President Dr Nath Amarakoon. OPA is the apex
body of Professional Associations Sri Lanka representing 43 major
professional bodies in fields such as engineering, medicine, accountancy
and law, with a membership of over 50,000 professionals. Ulluwishewa is
an engineer by profession who has held several key positions in the
public sector. He holds multiple membership in Engineering Institutions.
