'Symphony of Colour' in Kandy from Jan.19 to 28
Geetha Seneviratne will hold another solo exhibition, 'Symphony of
Colour' at the Alliance Francaise de Kandy, Peradeniya Road, Kandy.
Governor, Central Province, Tikiri Kobbekaduwa will open the expo on
January 18 at 6.00 p.m.
Second Secretary, Assistant Indian High Commissioner's Office, Vinod
Passy will be the guest of honour. The exhibition will be open from
January 19 to 28 from 8.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
Social worker Weerappa no more
Social worker and philanthropist, T.R. Weerappa of Regent Flats,
Colombo 2 passed away after a brief illness recently. Although a devout
Hindu by birth, he had donated a valuable land where the Sri
Sugatharamaya of Puwakpitiya is housed today.
He had also donated a plot of land to construct a road leading to a
village. Among those who share the sorrows of his bereavement are the
people of Puwakpitiya, a predominantly a Sinhala Buddhist area.
DIG Gunawardena’s memoirs launch on Jan. 19
The memoirs of a former senior DIG Edward Gunawardena including
memorable titbits such as the fire at the Jaffna Library will be
launched at the Mahaveli Centre, Colombo 7 on January 19, at 4.p.m.
The author recalls his school days during World War II and life at
the Peradeniya University in the early fifties and interesting episodes
of people and events. Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekera and Prof. Carlo Fonseka
will be the chief guests.
Dehiwela Mayor organises Pongal celebrations
Mayor of Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia, Dhanasiri Amaratunga has organised a
special ceremony to celebrate Thai Pongal Festival at the Dehiwela-Mt.
Lavinia Town Hall tomorrow morning.
Mayor Amaratunga said he has organised Thai Pongal celebrations on a
grand scale to strengthen ethnic harmony and brotherhood among all
communities in the country. |
