Sri Lanka win six matches but misses out on tournament victory
Sri Lanka blind cricketers had a somewhat successful tournament in
the World Cup. Sri Lanka beat South Africa, Nepal, Australia,
Bangladesh, England and West Indies, but lost to India and
Pakistan.India emerged champions beating Pakistan. India beat Pakistan
in the final. Chandana Desapriya turned out to be the star in the Sri
Lanka team, scoring two centuries and three half-centuries. Sri Lanka
skipper Chandana Kumara Suriyarachchi scored two half-centuries and was
picked as 'Man of the Match' in another game.India won the World Cup for
the first time. Since the inception of the tournament.

as 'Man of the Match' in the game against the West Indeis.Dimuthu
Ravindra was picked Man of the Match in the game against Nepal and R.

Besides the players, there were some officials who worked tirelessly
during the tournament. Lal Dhammika Seneviratne officiated as umpire at
several matches. D.S.K. Athulathmudali was match referee. The coach of
the Sri Lanka team was Jagath Rajapaksa while Nobert Silva was the
Manager. The Acting President of the Association U. Priyantha
co-ordinated all the activities very effectively in Sri Lanka.
