After demise of conjoined twins:
Parents move into tiled house: Thanks to Minister
Sanduni Nilmini Dissanayake, the conjoined twins lived just only five
months. Her bereaved parents still weep on their untimely death. It was
a dilemma for the medical specialists to separate one from the other as
they were gifted with only one heart.
The task was hardly impossible. Their parents lived in Malgaslanda,
Moneragala, one of the most difficult areas still deprived of modern
roads or communications. It was a wattle and daub structure which
provided them shelter from rain and sun alike.
The parents live in needy circumstances, always finding it difficult
to make both ends meet. Their low-income status deserved a new house
under Minister Wimal Weerawansa's 'Janasevana' housing project. Work on
the new housing unit began at a cost of one million rupees. Public
Cordination and Public Affairs Minister Dr. Mervin de Silva donated a
sum of Rs.500,000 to the poverty stricken family. The villagers provided
the labour free. Minister Weerawansa who paid his last respects to the
unfortunate babies donated Rs.100,000 to enable the family to complete
their new house.
