SLA's best weightlifter

S.S.P. Wijesuriya of the Sri Lanka Army is one of the best
weightlifters at the moment in Sri Lanka.
An old boy of Galgamuwa National School in the Kurunegala District,
he excelled in gymnastics in school level and he started weightlifting
when he joined the Sri Lanka Army in 2004.
He was selected as the best weightlifter at the Defence Services Meet
in 2008 and 2011.He won the same award at the Sri Lanka Army
Inter-Regimental Contest from 2008 to 2012. He won his weight class of
56 kg at the National Weight Lifting Championship in 2010 and 2011.
He set up two Sri Lanka records when he lifted 137 kgs in clean and
jerk and a total of 241 kgs in 2011 at the National Games. At
International contests he won his 56 kg Weight Class at the Commonwealth
Games held in South Africa in 2011. In that meet he lifted a total of
236 kgs (Snatch 103 kgs and Clean and Jerk 133). He also won his 56 kg
Weight Class at the South Asian Championship held in Nepal in 2011 to
win the Gold Medal he lifted 232 kgs.
