Kaushal puts SSC on top

Sinhalese Sports Club wicket-keeper batsman Kaushal Silva’s fighting
knock put home team in command as they recovered well scoring 324 runs
in reply for Moors SC’s 262 in their first innings at the end of the
second day’s play in the Premier League final played at the SSC grounds
yesterday.

Right handed Silva, the leading run getter with 985 in the season,
scored 171 runs with 23 fours and one six during his 240-ball stay at
the wicket. Silva’s enormous batting effort lift SSC as they were
struggling with 168 for 8 at one stage.
SSC, resuming from their overnight score of 22 for 1, lost night
watchman Charith Jayampathi for 2 off Dilhara Lokuhettige. Right arm
paceman Lokuhettige struck again to remove one drop Dhanushka
Gunatilleke, who was trapped lbw for 2 when SSC were three for 35.
Skipper Thilina Kandamby joined Silva and the pair added 54 runs for
fifth wicket and Kandamby was caught by Wickramarachchi off Vimukthi
Perera for 33 when the scoreboard read 132 for 5. Kaushalya Lokuarachchi
and Dasun Shanaka got out cheaply and SSC were at 168 for 8.
The best partnership for the home team was shared between paceman
Dhammika Prasad and Silva. The par added 102 runs for the ninth wicket
and SSC were able to pass Moors first innings total of 262. Right handed
Prasad hit 47 runs in 75 deliveries with five fours and a six before he
was caught by Lokuhettige off Malinda Pushpakumara, who took his 66th
wicket in the season.
Moors were 6 for no loss after one over at stumps yesterday. The
visitors are trailing by 56 runs with 10 wickets in hand. The third
day’s play will continue today from 10am.
Moors SC: 262 all out in 62.2 overs (Shehan Jayasuriya 68,
Chathuranga de Silva 51, Janaka Gunaratne 42, Isham Ghouse 31, Dhanushka
Gunatilleke 4/54, Charith Jayampathi 2/49) and 6/0 in one over.
SSC: 324 all out in 83 overs (Kaushal Silva 171, Dhammika Prasad 47,
Thilina Kandamby 33, Tharanga Paranavithana 25, Dilhara Lokuhettige
4/77, Vimukthi Perera 3/86, Malinda Pushpakumara 2/72).
