Navy edge out Seetha Devi SC

The Annual People's Bank Hockey Super Sevens organised by Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya and sponsored by People's Bank got off to a flying start with a number of matches being worked off at the Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy yesterday. The matches will be continued today at 8 am.

The finals of the four tournaments is expected to be played around 4 pm. onwards. The defending champion in the Women's Club Championship Navy had a close call against Seetha Devi Sports Club before winning 1-0.The schools defending champions Vijaya College, Matale won its two matches by convincing margins beating Trinity College 4-0 and St. Thomas' College Matara 3-0.The results of matches played yesterday. Schools - Boys: St. Thomas', Matara drew with Trinity 0-0, Nalanda beat Zahira, Matale 2-0, St. Sylvesters' beat Asoka Vidyalaya, Colombo 2-0, Zahira College, Matale beat Talatuoya Central 6-0, St. Thomas', Matale beat Dharmaloka, Kelaniya 4-0, Vijaya beat Trinity 4-0, St. Sylvesters' beat Menikdiwela Central 3-0.

Girls' Schools: Yasodara drew with Sumangala BV 0-0, Rushpadana BV beat Yasodara 1-0, St. Anthonys' BV drew with Gothami BV, Colombo 0-0, Yasodara beat Seetha Devi BV 2-0.

Mens' Club: Navy beat Hindu SC 3-0, Army beat Peradeniya University 3-0, Police beat Kotalawela Defence Academy 3-0, Sumangalian SC beat Nayakkars 2-0.

Womens' Clubs: Air Force beat Pushpadana SC 2-0, Air Force beat Navy 'B' 2-0, Navy 'A' beat Seetha Devi SC 1-0.
