World Animal Day
Love for animals is an inherent feeling. Many people love animals
whatever the kind maybe and treat them with love and take care of them
but there are people who are cruel to animals and mistreat them.we
should prevent animals being killed for their skins or for their flesh
without respecting the will of the animal who has a right to live. It is
this situation that must be prevented and animals which are becoming
extinct should be protected.
World Animal Day was started in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in
Florence as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered species.
October 4 was chosen as World Animal Day as it is the Feast Day of St
Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
Since then, World Animal Day has become a day for remembering and
paying tribute to all animals and the people who love and respect them.
It's celebrated in different ways in every country, with no regard to
nationality, religion, faith or political ideology. This day has been
set aside to create awareness about the animals who are becoming extinct
because of human action. In sri Lanka even the elephant which we find in
reasonably large numbers will become extinct son because of people
encroaching their territory.
At present there is a human -elephant conflict in areas where
elephants are found in large numbers and in the end it is the animal
that suffers. Children remember to treat animals with care because they
need our attention if they are to survive.
