Over 4,000 GNs to be appointed shortly

Four thousand Grama Niladaris will be appointed by the end of this year, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister John Seneviratne said. Interviews were being held to select suitable officers, out of a total of 8,000 applicants. Vacancies exist for 14,000 Niladaris whereas only ten thousand have been appointed so far.

Due to this lapse, each officer is compelled to supervise more than one division which has led to an increase in their workload.

The number of vacancies also go up due to retirement and deaths.

Out of the 96,000 candidates who sat the competitive examination, eight thousand had obtained high marks. The selected candidates will be posted to serve in their home districts.
