Rs. 4.5 m for poultry farming

Over 4200 house-wives in the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts have
agreed to undergo training in poultry farming as a source of
self-employment while attending to their normal domestic duties and
responsibilities under the ‘Divineguma’ national development program of
the Ministry of Economic Development,. Ministry of Economic Development
has made arrangements to provide these housewives with quality chicks,
expertise and veterinary guidance free of charge.
A sum of 4.5 million rupees would be invested by the government for
this purpose. With the help of vet.surgeons in the province, 50 mobile
service programs too would be held at electoral level to enlighten the
prospective house-wives on how to do this industry profitably.
The President of Kurunegala District Poultry Farmers’ Association R.M.
Kumarasiri, told ‘Sunday Observer’ that the poultry farmers of the
Kurunegala District supply the highest number of eggs to the market for
its local consumption and the daily output of eggs in Kurunegala is
around 4 million eggs. |
